Project Notes: Laura Sanderson, Residential Specialist for Duval Fixture, explains that her client moved into a house in which the previous owner painted the original kitchen cabinets two-tone with green on the bottom cabinets and white on uppers.

“This did not suit her taste,” Sanderson says. “We were asked to remove all of the outdated cabinets, countertops and backsplashes and replace them with a whole new redesign in mind.”

The client considered going with white uppers and black bottom cabinets but ultimately decided to specify all black to capture a Victorian look. Doormark’s silky Onyx 3DL was not only applied to the Duluth-style doors and drawer fronts but also to the trim and interiors, including all of the shelfs.

 Perhaps equally important to the radical change in color choice, the client wanted more storage space. “We replaced upper cabinets that were only 30 inches high with cabinets we built that were 42 inches high. We gave her corner cabinets and blind corner cabinets and added accessible 24-inch depth cabinets above the refrigerator where there were none before.” 

“The goal was to make sure everything flowed from the charcoal black floor she installed to the ceiling. She plans to add undermount cabinet lighting which will also highlight her backsplash and countertop.”
